Oak Class Curriculum Provision – Summer Term 2018

Oak Class Curriculum Provision Summer Term 2018

Welcome back after the Easter holidays and to the start of our final term. We had a brilliant Spring Term and are hoping the Summer Term will be just as great! The Summer Term is a very busy term with lots of events happening so please keep up to date with the weekly newsletters for important information. Below we have outlined what we are proposing to cover this term and some other information you might find useful. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

In English we will be linking our writing to our Geography topic about the rainforest. Creative writing will take over most of the first half term where we will look at stories and using our imaginations. In the second half we will look at debates and role play linked to rainforests. It is advised that children read at home every night and a comment is written in their Reading Record. The reading records are checked every Friday. Children will continue to learn their weekly spellings and be tested on a Monday and their English homework will be linked to the grammar lesson taught that week.

In Maths we will follow the objectives outlined in the Inspire scheme of work. Year 3 will be looking at fractions, time, angles and area and perimeter. Year 4 will focus on more decimal work, time and symmetry work. We will continue our weekly times table test, which the children are really enjoying. Please encourage your child to keep practising their times and related division facts at home.

In Science children will be studying plants, what they need, their different parts and how they pollinate. This also links to our geography topic of rainforests. We will be having a science week so keep a look out for exciting things happening then.

In Computing the children will become experts in word and power point linked to other ongoing topics.

Our Geography topic will be about The Rainforest and children will explore various aspects of this:-the landscape, the animals, the living communities and deforestation.

Art and Design Technology will also be linked to the rainforest topic. We will look at drawing animals, making masks and an artist study. We would also like to look at making mini greenhouses as part of our science unit.

In R.E children will learn about the features in a church and look at the stories from the bible. As well as looking the Qu’ran.

In French we will talk about spare time and hobbies and describe the weather.

Oak class will have P.E on a Monday and Friday. This term we have our Casablanca gym sessions, so please ensure that the correct PE kit (t-shirt, black shorts and trainers/plimsolls) is in school. All items should be named. Kits should remain in school at all times as we will be practicing activities ready for sports day.

English homework will be set on Mondays to be returned the following Monday. Maths homework will be set on Thursdays to be returned the following Wednesday or Thursday. Homework may also be set to support topic or science work.

Water bottles

As the weather gets warmer we actively encourage children to bring in water bottles so that they can easily access water throughout the day. Please ensure the bottle has your child’s name on it. A hat is also a good idea to have in school on hot days.
