Oak Class Curriculum Provision – Spring Term 2017

Oak Class Curriculum Provision – Spring Term 2017

Below we have outlined what will be studied this term. We have also included some other information you might find useful. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

In English we will be focusing on report writing and looking at the book The Demon Headmaster by Gillian Cross. The children will have the opportunity to write letters and study newspapers. It is advised that children read at home every night and a comment is written in their Reading Record. The reading records are checked every Friday. Children will learn spellings within their grammar lessons and handwriting and presentation will be a key focus this term.

In Maths we will follow the objectives outlined in the Inspire scheme of work.

Times tables (and related division facts) are a key skill and therefore children should practise these every day at home.

In Science children will be studying two topics this term: ‘Movement and Feeding’ and ‘Dangers to living things.’

In Computing the children will become presenters and video each other’s’ performances using iMovie.

Our Geography topic will be about Extreme Earth, where the children will look at earthquakes, volcanoes and other aspects of Mother Nature.

Art and Design Technology will be an artist study looking at Kandinsky and then moving on to some creative technology.

In R.E children will learn about Moses.

This term’s Music lessons will focus on playing the recorder.

Other information

Oak class will have P.E on a Monday afternoon so please ensure that the correct PE kit (t-shirt, black shorts and trainers/plimsolls) is in school. All items should be named. Children will also need to have a black track suit or sweatshirt and joggers in school for when the weather turns colder. Kits should remain in school at all times and be taken home at weekends only if they are dirty.

English homework will be set on Tuesdays to be returned the following Monday. Maths homework will be set on Fridays to be returned the following Wednesday. Occasionally additional homework will be set e.g. to support topic work.

Mile a day

The children have been and will continue to run a mile a day and therefore do need a change of footwear in school every day.
